Celeo is awarded a new expansion project in Chile’s electricity system

The Celeo Group is reinforcing its presence in Chile with a project included in Exempt Decree No. 4/2024, aimed at improving the capacity of the electricity transmission system.

On 14 November 2024, the Chilean National Electricity Coordinator (CEN) opened the economic bids for the international public tender for expansion projects included in Exempt Decrees No. 4 of 2024, No. 200 of 2022 and No. 185 of 2021. This process, which involved a total of 21 projects and a cumulative investment of 370 million dollars (approximately 347 million euros), awarded key works for the expansion of the country’s electricity system.

The participating companies included PowerChina, Tucapel Energía, Monlux, Ametel, Sistema de Transmisión del Sur, Changshu Fengfan Power, Conexión Kimal Lo Aguirre, Bac Ingenieros and Elecnor Chile, underlining the competitiveness of the tender. The largest contract awarded, the project for the installation of the second circuit of the 2×500 kV Ancoa-Charrúa line, was awarded to Elecnor Chile with a bid of USD 106 million (around EUR 99.5 million).

Celeo was awarded a new project under Exempt Decree No. 4/2024. This project further strengthens the company’s solid track record in Chile, where it has played a leading role in the development of the electricity transmission system. It should be recalled that in 2012, Celeo was awarded the construction of the first circuit of the Ancoa-Charrúa line, which was commissioned in December 2017, setting a milestone in the modernisation of the national electricity system.

With this new contract, Celeo reaffirms its commitment to the expansion and improvement of the Chilean electricity system, contributing to the sustainable development and security of the country’s energy supply. The company continues to consolidate its position as a key player in the electricity transmission sector, not only in Chile but throughout the region.
